2016 Academy

As the new artistic director of the Orford Arts Centre, I am very pleased to present the 2016 edition of the Orford International Academy. Since 1951, we have offered a unique and stimulating environment for the development of several generations of talented young musicians eager to embark on a professional career. We have prepared this 65th season with a focus on offering our students a springboard to the international music scene.

This summer, we will hold the first edition of the Orford Award. This competition will allow the winner to go on a five concerts tour in the world’s largest cities, including Beijing, China; and Pretoria, South Africa. Furthermore, the prestigious Yehudi Menuhin Foundation will select one of the finalists of the Orford Award to head out on a European concert tour in 2016. As for the orchestral segment, the musicians of the Orford Academy Orchestra will have the chance to tour in South Korea. You will find more details about these exciting new features in the attached documents.

Based on its long tradition of excellence, the Orford International Academy also proposes a new master class for voice and piano duos. As usual, a great selection of master classes and workshops will be offered by internationally renowned musicians and pedagogues.

The Orford Award has been introduced this year to bring a larger international presence to the student “Preludes” performed at the Orford Festival’s professional concerts. More details

In 2016, the Orford Academy Orchestra will perform in South Korea. This free workshop will allow 55 chosen students to study the orchestral repertoire under the supervision of principal conductor Jean-François Rivest. More details
