Orford Academy is breaking new ground this year by inaugurating an entirely new baroque vocal workshop. This week long course, under the direction of the Nouvel Opéra, is designed for signers 16 to 30 years of age and of college or university caliber.
Oratorio, Passion and Cantata
An important source to understanding music lies in its original unity of vocal sound, physical gesture and text/meaning. This unity is reflected by our triangular approach: voice lessons, working on the body (gesture/stage/dance), as well as lectures on context and semantics.
Our repertoire will be Cantata and Oratorio, so to speak Opera’s Far Side: from Monteverdi to Mendelssohn. Being an essential part to most singers’ career, this thesaurus deserves more than the usual attention.
