COLLABORATIVE PIANO WORKSHOPS
Instrumental accompaniment
June 8 to 14, 2012
Under the guidance of Yi -Fang Huang, this internship offers training for pianists who are interested in developing strong collaborative skills, good musicianship and exploring in-depth the viola repertoire. During the one-week intense program, each participant will receive daily private lessons and sudio class, will work with 7-8 violists and will perform in 3 students recitals and 6 viola master classes. The repertoire will be assigned to each participant approximately 2-3 weeks in advance.
Vocal accompaniment
(in collaboration with the Vocal art Workshop)
July 22 to August 12, 2012
Once again this year, the renowned pianist, chamber musician and coach Olivier Godin will direct an accompaniment class that will give young pianists the opportunity of developing their skills as collaborative pianists while widening their knowledge of the vocal repertoire. Each pianist will collaborate with several singers from the vocal program and actively participate in the vocal masterclasses as well as having the opportunity of accompanying individual vocal classes and working individually with Olivier Godin. The vocal repertoire to be covered will be wide-ranging but will focus on French mélodie, German lieder and general operatic literature. A particular emphasis of the program will be on text comprehension and the unique link that exists between singers and pianists.

Yi-Fang Huang | Olivier Godin |
“Orford is fantastic! Yi-Fang Huang is patient, very knowledgeable, most inspiring and a wonderful pianist. You will definitely work hard at this program, but she works just as hard. Because Ms. Huang also is a violist, and able to assist in that particular instrumental discipline as well, she definitely is one of a kind! Orford is a perfect location with an amazing natural setting. Faculty and staff create a friendly and supportive environment, the food is excellent, and the students are wonderful, energized, and yet relaxed in demonstrating amazing creativity. Orford surely has been one of my most fun and rewarding summer programs.”

“Spending a week in NAVI gave me the gist of real-world professional collaborative pianists’ responsibilities and duties. It was intense, serious, yet friendly. Everybody was warm and encouraging. Yi-Fang wholeheartedly worked with us and expected only the best. It was a great program and I am thankful for the opportunity. “
