Michel Strauss

Cellist considered as one of the most accomplished French musicians of his generation, Michel Strauss studied in France and the United States. Professor of the violoncello class at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris since 1987, he has trained many musicians of the new generation, and set up a great number of conferences and workshops in the United States and Asia, as well as in his native country and Normandy region, to reward the outreach efforts of young performers.

Principal ‘Cello of the Nouvel Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio-France in 1980, Mr. Strauss also performs with many orchestras in France and abroad, and gives the world premieres of concertos composed especially for him. In chamber music, he has been partnered with several artists including Henriette Puig-Roget, Tibor Varga, Georges Pludermacher, Gérard Jarry, Aldo Parisot, Serge Collot, Jean-Claude Pennetier, Gérard Caussé, Bruno Pasquier, and the legendary Sándor Végh.

Michel Strauss has performed in most of the French music festivals and on major stages around the world. Since its inception, he is Music Director of the Musique de chambre à Giverny festival.
