John Roney

Since moving to Montreal in 2001, John Roney has established himself as one of the most well-known and well-respected names in jazz piano. His versatility as a performer, composer, arranger, and educator have garnered him many great musical opportunities with local and international artists.

John has been involved in well over 50 commercial recordings, and has performed all over the world, with some of the top names in the music industry. He has 4 albums to his own credit, and in 2010, he was nominated for 2 Felix (l'ADISQ) Awards, and a JUNO Award for his string quartet album 'Silverbirch'.

As a composer, he has written and arranged music for television/radio and commercial projects, and has composed concert music for ensembles ranging from jazz big bands to full-size orchestras.

In 2011 he was awarded the Prix Etoiles Galaxie by the Montreal Jazz Festival for his outstanding compositions.

As an educator, John teaches piano at McGill University and jazz arranging and vocal accompaniment at CEGEP Marie Victorin. He is a KORG Canada artist and clinician, and gives piano keyboard masterclasses when touring.
