Theodore Baskin
Theodore Baskin, Principal Oboe of l'Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, has appeared as soloist in many parts of the world including Canada, United States, Japan, France, Russia, Argentina and New Zealand. With l'OSM, he was the featured soloist on two international tours. He has given two world premieres, and performed the Concerto for Oboe and Harp by A. Schnittke with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, for Radio Moscow. Mr. Baskin has recorded four Vivaldi Concerti for Chandos Records, performing one in the Ciné Qua Non film "Le Violon Magique" for Arts and Entertainment network, and has made several chamber music recordings for ATMA, CBC and Sodec Records.
He has performed on many series including the Mostly Mozart Festival with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Marlboro Music Festival, Bay Chamber Concerts in Maine, Grand Teton Festival in Wyoming and the Orford Music Festival. He is frequently heard on the Arts National program for CBC Radio.
Having attended Juilliard and received a Bachelor of Music from Curtis, he earned a Master of Music from the University of Auckland with an analysis of Five Bach Cantatas. He has been Professor of Music at Indiana University School of Music, where he was head of the oboe studio, giving lessons, master classes, audition preparation, chamber music coaching and doctoral thesis advising. He has taught at the Orford Festival and Domaine Forget. Mr. Baskin is the Associate Professor of Oboe at McGill University.
